Registering the death
Registration of the death must be done as a matter of urgency - usually within five days of the death. |
| Registration |
All deaths are required by law to be registered in the district where they occur. The Doctor will issue a Medical Certificate of the cause of death which must then be taken to the District Registrar together with the deceased's Medical Card.
The procedure at the Registrar is very straight forward and you will be asked the following questions:
- Date and place of birth and death
- Full name of the deceased
- Marital status of the deceased
- The last occupation of the deceased
- If female, maiden name and husband's full name and occupation if any
- If the deceased was married at the time of death, the date of birth of the surviving partner.
